Law banning smoking in indoor public spaces, published in Official Journal

The law banning smoking in indoor public spaces was published in the Official Journal on Monday and will come into force in 45 days’ time.

President Klaus Iohannis last Friday signed a decree for the promulgation of a bill amending and supplementing Law No 349/2002 for the prevention and combating the effects of tobacco products consumption.

The law was challenged with the Constitutional Court of Romania, but the judges established that the modified provisions observe the fundamental law.

The law bans smoking in indoor public spaces, in indoor work places, at playgrounds, in medical and education facilities, as well as child protection and assistance facilities.
