Arrivals at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments exceed 9.898 million in 2015

In 2015, arrivals at Romania’s tourist accommodation establishments amounted to 9898.6 thousand, up17.2 percent from 2014, according to data released on Wednesday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).

In 2015, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists at the establishments of tourist accommodation were 77.4 percent of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 22.6 percent, similar to 2014. As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists at the establishments of tourist accommodation, the highest share hailed from Europe (74.5 percent of the total of foreign tourists), with 85.6 percent of them having come from other European Union member states.

Overnight stays with the establishments of tourist accommodation amounted to 23445.4 thousand, 15.9 more than in 2014.

The Romanian tourists’ overnight stays with the establishments of tourist accommodation were 81.0 percent of the total overnight stays, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays were 19.0 percent. As to the overnight stays with the tourist accommodation establishments, the highest share came from Europe (72.6 percent of the total of foreign tourists) and 83.7 percent of them hailed from other European Union member states.

In 2015, the average time of stay was 2.5 days for the Romanian tourists and 2.0 days for the foreign tourists.

The net use index of accommodation places was 28.8 percent on total tourist accommodation, 2.6 pp more compared to 2014. In 2015, higher indices of accommodation places were registered by hotels (36.3 percent), tourist villas (21.8 percent) and hostels (20.4 percent).

In December 2015, the arrivals at the establishments of tourist accommodation amounted to 655.8 thousand, 19.6 percent more than in December 2014. In December 2015, the arrivals of the Romanian tourists at the tourist accommodation establishments were 80.5 percent of the total arrivals, while the foreign tourists were 19.5 percent, similar to December 2014. As to the arrivals of the foreign tourists, the largest share came from Europe (72.1 percent of the total of foreign tourists), with 82.9 percent of them having come from other European Union member states.

In December 2015, the overnight stays with tourist accommodation establishments amounted to 1333.2 thousand, 16.3 percent more than in December 2014. In December 2015, the Romanian tourists’ overnight stays with the same establishments were 80.2 percent of the total overnight stays, while the foreign tourists’ overnight stays were 19.8 percent. As to the overnight stays of foreign tourists with the establishments of tourist accommodation, the highest share was from Europe (69.5 percent of the total of foreign tourists) and 82.1 percent of them came from other European Union member states.

The average time of stay was 2.0 days for the Romanian tourists and 2.1 days for the foreign tourists.

The net use index of accommodation places was 21.8 percent on total tourists accommodation, 2.0 pp more from December 2014.

Higher occupancy rates of were reported by hotels (26.3 percent), school and pre-school camps (18.8 percent), tourist villas (16.9 percent), tourist boarding houses (16.4 percent), hostels (15.0 percent), agro-tourist boarding houses (14.3 percent) and tourist cottages (13.4 percent).
