Slight surplus in agri-food trade

Romania recorded from January to October 2015 a slight surplus in the trade in agricultural products of 70.47 million euros, down by almost 86pct compared to the level of 496.50 million euros reported in the same period in 2014, having been supported by grain exports to EU countries and third ones, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR) at Agerpres request.

Romania’s exports to EU countries and to extra-EU ones rose by 6.1pct from the same period of 2014, having totaled 4.76 billion euros at end- October 2015. In the first 10 months of 2014, Romania exported food products worth 4.48 billion euros.

In the mentioned period from 2015, the imports of agri-food products reached 4.69 billion euros, by over 17.5 pct more than in the same period in 2014, when these totaled 3.99 billion euros.

The MADR data show that in the first 10 months of 2015, Romania received over 1.62 billion euros from grain exports.

According to MADR, maize imports ranked first place in the first 10 months of 2015, with 1.46 million tonnes (259.36 million euros), followed by pork, with 152,207 tonnes brought from foreign markets, worth 239.12 million euros.

Romania saw an agri-food trade surplus also in 2013 and 2014, after 20 years in which relevant imports exceeded exports.
