Romanian gendarmes did their duty and contributed to making Romania a safe state and a security factor, Minister of Internal Affairs Petre Toba declared at the 2015 annual review report of the Gendarmerie on Thursday. He congratulated the officers and reminded them the government programme’s priority of increasing personal safety and public order.
“We’re facing a year with more missions; we have to decide the necessary measures for the proper unfolding of local and parliamentary elections, and you have to assure a climate of order and safety during public events, while carrying out your regular duties. (…) I particularly stress your cooperation with the police to prevent and fight street crime (…) where we have to focus our efforts on increasing the efficiency of the public order system,” he told the gendarmes.
Toba mentioned, as another priority of his tenure, the safety of educational establishments and of their surroundings, and asked the Gendarmerie to permanently work on that.
He also appreciated the gendarmes’ involvement in international missions and emphasized their professionalism proven in theatres of operations in Afghanistan, Congo, Haiti and Ukraine.
In 2015, the Romanian Gendarmerie carried out 692,634 missions, 50 percent more than in 2014.
