Tourist injured in Fagaras Mts. passed away

A tourist injured on Saturday in the Vaiuga area with the Fagaras Mts., the highest of the Romanian Carpathians, has passed away despite efforts of the mountain rescuers of Salvamont Sibiu to save him, the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) Sibiu announced.

“Unfortunately, despite resuscitation the Emergency Mobile Resuscitation and Extrication Service (SMURD) crew has but to declare the death of the tourist aged rd 50,” said Bianca Sabau, the ISU Sibiu spokesperson.

Mountain rescuers have asked for help the SMURD crew, which arrived at Balea Lake, with a helicopter from Bucharest, but the tourist could not be saved.

The man was in cardiac arrest after falling from a height. He was part of a larger group of tourists who were on Saturday at over 2,000 metres high, in the Fagaras Mts., according to the head of Salvamont Sibiu, Adrian David.
