Garana Jazz Festival 2016 brings four exceptional bands

Four of the most acclaimed international bands will take part in the 20th edition of the Garana Jazz Festival. Thus, Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet, Enrico Rava, Kari Ikonen Trio and Magnus Ostrom Band are rounding off the line-up of the show that will take place on July 7-11 at the top of the Semenic Mountains in Caras-Severin. 80 artists, 22 bands, 3 stages and 5 days of concerts will mark the anniversary edition of the most important open-air jazz festival in Central and Eastern Europe.

Yuri Honing, one of the most creative and daring saxophonists of the moment will come to Garana with the quartet formed alongside Wolfert Brederode (piano), Gulli Gudmundsson (bass) and Joost Lijbaart (drums). Honing’s discography includes 40 titles, the Edison Jazz Award, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammy, and successful collaborations with musicians such as Mischa Mengelberg, Pat Metheny and Paul Blay.

Trumpeter and composer Enrico Rava, the emblematic representative of Italian jazz, will be an effervescent presence at the festival. A performance that mixes lyricism with free-avantgarde and uptempo, alongside Enrico Morello (drums), Gabriele Evangelista (bass) and Francesco Diodati (guitar).

Kari Iknonen, a group with Finnish and Armenian origins, will also take to the stage at the Garana Jazz Festival. Last year, the group made an album that was among the top 10 jazz albums of the last year.

The bands whose presence has been confirmed at the Garana XX edition also include Magnus Ostrom BAND (Sweden), former member of the revolutionary E.S.T. group, which dedicated its last years of life to a sound manifesto that proves that music can cure deep wounds. The Parachute album will be launched in April 2016 and will be brought for the first time in Romania.

Garana Jazz Festival 2016 also means FOOD, Nils Petter Molvaer and Louis Sclavis Trio.

In its 20 years of existence, the Garana Jazz Festival brought together over 50,000 fans and contemporary jazz performers. Eberhard Weber, Mike Stern, Jan Garbarek, Stanley Clarke, Viktor Wooten, Charles Llyod, Jean-Luc Ponty and Stanley Jordan are some of those who took to the stage.

Tickets can be bought online in April and throughout the duration of the festival.
