Sibiu Salami acquired on Thursday name of PGI

Sibiu Salami officially acquired on Thursday the name of Protected Geographical Indication twenty days after the publication of the registration announcement in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu congratulates the members of the Association of Sibiu Salami Producers for this achievement and encourages all producers of quality products to follow their example.

Romania has managed to register at European level the ‘Sibiu Salami’ as product with Protected Geographical Indication, being the second product after Topoloveni Plum Jam in 2011, Agriculture Minister Achim Irimescu told AGERPRES on February 19.

On November 17, 2014, the application for acquiring the PGI name for the ‘Sibiu Salami’ was submitted to the European Commission by the applying group – the Association of Sibiu Salami Producers, formed of five Romanian meats producers, who make 90pct of the production of Sibiu salami in Romania: Agricola Bacau, Aldis, H&E Reinert, Salsi and Scandia Romania, later on joined also by CrisTim.
