President Iohannis decorates artists

President Klaus Iohannis decorated on Tuesday actress Stela Popescu, actor Florin Piersic and the members of the Cargo rock band in a ceremony at the Cotroceni Palace, seat of the Presidential Administration.

“We are here to recognize and honour your talent and artistic career by bestowing the National Order of the Star of Romania and the Cultural Merit Order, respectively. I congratulate you and thank you for your contribution to the prestige of the artistic and cultural act in Romania,” the President said.

He praised Stela Popescu as “an unmistakable landmark in Romania’s comedy and variety theatre.” “Generation of fans of this genre admired you on stage and in maNy films and TV series,” he told her.

Iohannis also acknowledged that Romanians home and abroad know Florin Piersic as “a symbol of the vitality of the Romanian stage art and a true example of longevity and tenacity.” “In films and on stage, you have embodied human model and brought to life moral ideals for generations of Romanians,” the President added.

To the Cargo band members, he said, “Your songs carried you towards the international and European recognition, and especially to the hearts of many thousand Romanians. Paraphrasing the name of one of your most famous songs, I am asking you not to let the fans of your music long for Cargo.”
