ForMin Comanescu, Francophone diplomats address Romania activity in La Francophonie

Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu on Wednesday talked about Romania’s activity within the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) in a meeting with the ambassadors and other representatives of the Group of Francophone Embassies, Delegations and Institutions accredited in Bucharest (GADIF), organized at the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE).

“The Foreign Affairs Minister has emphasized the strong commitment of Romania to promoting the OIF values and projects, as well as a good cooperation with the states represented in the GADIF in various fields of shared interest. He has also mentioned that the joint vision of the OIF members should consider the further strengthening of the political dimension of the Francophonie, that would lead to an increased involvement of the organization in solving global issues,” a MAE release sent to Agerpres on Wednesday informs.

The Romanian chief diplomat recalled the special attention Romania is giving, as a “lighthouse-state” of the Francophonie for Central and Eastern Europe, to the promotion of the Francophone values in our region and to the good collaboration with the regional offices of the OIF and AUF (University Agency of Francophonie), seated in Bucharest, in carrying out national and regional projects, with priority on youth.

“In this context, he reminded the Romanian initiative regarding the Eugen Ionesco Programme of doctoral and post-doctoral research grants, which turned a decade since its launching, on the occasion of the Sommet de la Francophonie in Bucharest, with over 600 scholars of 37 Francophone states, mainly of Africa and of our region benefitting to date,” the release says.

During talks, the Romanian chief diplomat congratulated the GADIF members for their activity to promoting the Francophone values and actions in Romania, including for the organization of some cultural and of public diplomacy events dedicated to the celebration of the international day of Francophonie.

The GADIF representatives praised Romania’s activity within the institutional Francophonie, especially its assumed regional role, the source adds.
