Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs: The relations between Romania and Ireland are founded on a strong and durable friendship

The anniversary, on 17 March, of St. Patrick’s Day – the National Day of Ireland – offers the opportunity to extend our warmest wishes of peace, prosperity and happiness to Ireland and its people.

The relations between Romania and Ireland are founded on a strong and durable friendship and excellent political, economic, cultural and people-to-people cooperation. Our diplomatic relations have known, for over a quarter of a century, a consistently positive trend and have led to a solid political bond between our countries, rendering both Romania and Ireland stronger partners, both bilaterally and as members of the European Union.

The Romanian-Irish economic cooperation offers substantial opportunity for continuous growth in a number of sectors of mutual interest (such as ITC, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, agricultural and food products, renewable energy, automotive components, SMEs). We are encouraged by the fact that significant Irish companies such as Ryanair and Met Life Insurance have started to invest in Romania and we look forward to further development in bilateral trade and investment.

One of the most valuable assets for both Romania and Ireland consists of the strong Romanian community in Ireland. The over 50.000 Romanians who have chosen Ireland as their new home are well integrated in the Irish society, contribute in a substantial way to the multicultural profile of Ireland and act as an additional bridge between our countries. Romanians in Ireland are active in such important professional sectors as IT, medicine, the arts, academia.

Romania shares the joy of the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on 17 March with Ireland and wishes the Irish people a Happy National Day!
