Bucharest Court of Appeals dismisses registration of former President Traian Basescu’s party

The Bucharest Court of Appeals dismissed on Friday the request filed by forme President Traian Basescu for registering the People’s Movement (PM) in the registry of political parties.

The Bucharest Tribunal had admitted the registration of the PM in December 2015, but the Prosecutor’s Office of the Tribunal filed an appeal, which was upheld by the Court of Appeals; its ruling is final.

The Congress to set up the People’s Movement as a political party was held on 24 October 2015; 5,000 voted Traian Basescu as party chairman.

The former President of Romania had joined the People’s Movement Party (PMP) on 9 October 2015 and then he proposed changing the party’s name into People’s Movement.
