In January 2016 Romania recorded a negative natural increase in population of 7,757 people, in line with the figure reported in the same month of 2015 which was 7,662, show data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
As far as the birth rate is concerned, the January’s number of live births was by 1,029 less y-o-y and the number of deaths was by 934 less than in January 2015.
The number of infants under the age of one year who died in January 2016 was by 30 percent lower than in January 2015.
According to the INS data, the number of registered marriages was by 368 higher than in January 2015, while the number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings was by 26 higher this January that one year ago.
According to INS comparative data (January 2016 vs. December 2015) 15,711 newborns were registered in February 2016, by 1,501 less than in the previous month and 23,468 deaths were registered in February 2016, down 14 from December 2015.
There were also 112 deaths of infants under the age of one year this January, up by 28 compared to December 2015 (94 deaths of infants under the age of one year).
A number of 4,732 marriages were registered in January 2016, by 521 less than in December 2015, while the number of divorces pronounced under final court rulings was 998, by 1,758 less than in the previous month.
