ALDE decided on Monday to exclude from the party Dumitru Pelican, leader of the ALDE group within the Senate, at the proposal made by its Bucharest branch, because there were “certain statements, certain activities,” according to party president Daniel Constantin. Dumitru Pelican is the only member of the Conservative Party who opposed, a year ago, the start of the merger negotiations with Calin Popescu Tariceanu’s Liberal Reforming Party.
“There were reasons that were discussed within the Bucharest branch, and certain statements, certain activities. I wouldn’t want to go into too much detail, but the Bucharest branch proposed this solution that they validated on Saturday, and the Merger Commission took act of it and consequently validated it today,” Daniel Constantin stated on Monday in a press conference at the party headquarters.
Senator Dumitru Pelican claims that he was not kicked out of ALDE but he resigned instead, last Thursday, stating that the party led by Popescu Tariceanu and Daniel Constantin “does not exist.”
“I announced since Thursday. I sent word. On Saturday, I was summoned to nominate the candidates and I didn’t attend. My resignation was filed. The only thing they did today was to wash out their shame. ALDE does not exist. I will make the announcement within the plenum, at 4 p.m., when you will find out the truth, because the truth has to be restored,” Dumitru Pelican stated for Mediafax.
