Former Romanian Boxing Federation President Rudel Obreja gets three-year suspended prison sentence

Former president of the Romanian Boxing Federation Rudel Obreja was given a final suspended prison sentence of three years by the Bucharest Court of Appeal (CAB) for influence peddling. He was found guilty of having asked Sorin Ovidiu Vintu one million euros to influence judges with the High Court of Cassation and Justice, Romania’s Supreme Court.

The CAB also sentenced Obreja to 90 days of community work.

Initially, on 17 June 2015, Obreja was sentenced by the Bucharest Tribunal to three years imprisonment; this sentence was suspended on appeal.

Vintu, a once prominent businessman, has been sentenced to prison in several cases of blackmail, frauds and abetment.
