MasterCard and Uber partner up to promote mobile card payments

MasterCard and Uber have signed a partnership dedicated to promoting card payments carried out through mobile devices. The promotion, which will take place from March 21 to June 21, can be accessed through the simple introduction of a promotional code (“denepretuit”) in the Uber account or application, under the Promotions section. Thus, new Uber users will benefit from a RON 15 discount for each of their first three rides paid with a MasterCard.

MasterCard, the operator of the fastest payment processing network in the world, and Uber, one of the most valuable start-ups at international level, have launched this promotion in order to give an incentive to mobile payments in Romania, a rising trend at market level.

“The partnership between MasterCard and Uber, for the promotion of mobile payments in Romania, marks an organic extension of the vision and strategy of the two companies, for which consumer experience and the use of technology and innovation are essential. We thank our partners for actively supporting us in capitalizing on the potential of the local digital payments market. Mobile payments are on an upward trajectory, marking one of the accelerated developments in the ecosystem of digital payments in recent years, and the effects of this trend are reflected by the behaviour of consumers in Romania too, who are starting to explore and be aware of the benefits of mobile digital payments, which are unique from the standpoint of efficiency, security and comfort,” stated Gabriel Ghita, MasterCard Europe Head of New Business CEE.

“Electronic card payment is an essential part of the experience that Uber passengers and partner drivers have. The partnership with MasterCard is strategic for us, in the continuous effort to promote the advantages of digital payments and of technology in general. Apart from a simpler and more convenient way to pay, card payment gives full transparency to transactions and more security – two aspects that are priceless for Uber,” Uber Romania General Manager Nicoleta Schroeder stated.
