Approximately 7.14 million valid driving licenses were registered in Romania as of 31 December 2015; 4.84 million men and 2.3 million women had valid driver licenses, according to statistical data of the Driving Licence and Vehicle Registration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, consulted by Agerpres.
According to the source, most of the driving licenses were released by Bucharest, namely 921,033, followed by the counties of Cluj (284,070), Timis (281,307), Constanta (276,249), Prahova (272,944), Arges (238,771), Dolj (228,254), Brasov (225,477), Suceava (217,705), Bihor (209,074), and Iasi (206,741). At the opposite end were the counties of Giurgiu (73,549), Ialomita (70,569) and Covasna (70,424).
By age groups, most of the driving licenses were owned by persons aged 31 to 50 (3.32 million), followed by those aged between 51 and 70 (1.78 million), and 21 to 30 (1.42 million); 423,329 persons aged over 71 held valid driving licenses, as well as 189,281 persons aged 18 to 20.
