Bucharest hosts first gathering of Romanian and Moldovan mayors

One thousand mayors from Romania and Moldova will gather on Sunday at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest for the Conference of Representatives of Local Communities in Romania and Moldova, the Unionist Platform Actiunea 2012 informs in a statement.

“The special and privileged relation between Romania and Moldova must also be strengthened at a decentralized level. Fraternity between localities, counties and districts will open new perspectives for development in the fields of economy, education, culture and sports and in the local administration sector,” President of Unionist Platform Actiunea 2012 George Simion stated.

During workshops, representatives of local communities will discuss options for twinning, opportunities for collaboration and topics relating to projects that can attract grants.

According to the statement, in February PM Dacian Ciolos declared that the Government aims to boost cooperation at local level, in particular in those communes and towns in Moldova that are twinned with Romanian localities.

The event, organized by the “Union Friends” Inter-Parliamentary Group, the Institute for Culture and European Rights and the Unionist Platform Actiunea 2012 in partnership with the Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi Institute for Romanians Abroad, will be hosted by the C.A. Rosetti Hall of the Palace of Parliament.
