Lia Olguta Vasilescu says she will run for new term as Mayor

Lia Olguta Vasilescu claims that she will certainly run for a new term as leader of the Mayoralty in Craiova, for the local elections of June 5.

“I understand that, in the last few days, a telephone-based opinion poll was conducted on 1,000 voters and I have 82% of them, in this opinion poll. (…). I will definitely run again. Last year, I had a hesitation, but I want to complete all my projects. I have a stadium in construction, I have a municipal hospital, I have a residential neighbourhood in construction, all these projects are 100% mine and I want to complete them. They will be finished this autumn. I do not want to feel this as a loss in any way and I do not want anyone to take it as my personal failure. I know that hard times are to come because, perhaps, this lesson will not go unpunished, but I am willing to, because I want to finish these projects for the inhabitants of Craiova”, the Social-Democrat declared for a TV station on Wednesday evening.

Olguta Vasilescu, the Mayor of the Municipality of Craiova will be freed from house arrest in the file she is prosecuted for bribe taking and money laundering, the judges of the Appeal Court of Bucharest decided on Wednesday.

The Appeal Court of Bucharest decided on Wednesday to cease the measure of house arrest ordered by the Bucharest Court in Olguta Vasilescu’s case. Olguta Vasilescu is the Mayor of the Municipality of Craiova and Vice-President of PSD.

Lia-Olguta Vasilescu is accused of four counts of bribe taking, three counts of use of authority or influence in the purpose of gaining money, goods and other undeserved benefits and money laundering.
