Viorel Hrebenciuc, prosecuted for false testimony

Viorel Hrebenciuc was present on Thursday at the Bucharest District 1 Court Prosecutors’ Office, legal sources quoted by News.ro declared.

They also mentioned that the politician was notified by prosecutors that he was charged with false testimony in a file based on a complaint made by Ioan Niculae, in which the businessman reported that the former Deputy had allegedly made false testimony in the file “Bribe for PSD”, on the financing of Mircea Geoana’s electoral campaign in 2009.

Viorel Hrebenciuc made no statement referring to the file he was summoned on. While leaving the Prosecutors’ Office of the District 1 Court, he only declared that “we will see each other around soon”.

The file was opened after Ioan Niculae filed a complaint accusing Hrebenciuc of pressure in 2009 for illegally financing Mircea Geoana’s campaign and for the fact that the former Deputy has made a false testimony when he was questioned as a witness in the file “Bribe for PSD”,  Agerpres reported.

Ioan Niculae is completing, since April 2015, the sentence of two years and six months in prison, in the file “Bribe for PSD”.

Viorel Hrebenciuc was a witness in the file Niculae was convicted on for having illegally financed Mircea Geoana’s electoral campaign in 2009.

According to the quoted sources, Niculae shows in the complaint he had filed at the District 1 Court that he has paid over RON 300,000 to Hrebenciuc, money he has handed over with a bag at that time.
