KMG International makes Romania greener

+ KMG International volunteers plant 2,200 trees in Constanta County

150 employees of KMG International, from its Bucharest headquarters and Petromidia refinery, planted 2,200 trees on Friday, April 8, in Corbu commune, Constanta County. The trees planted are from the willow and wild olive species.

“It is the company’s and the employees’ responsibility to protect the environment and to pass on to future generations a culture of environment protection, with respect for the three planes of sustainable development: economic, ecologic and social. We give special attention to the areas around the Petromidia platform, located close to the Black Sea, the Siutghiol Lake, the Danube Delta biosphere, the ecosystem related to the Midia canal and the Navodari, Corbu and Constanta localities. Our goal is to carry out our activity in line with the highest standards and to constantly bring our contribution to environment protection and the development of local communities through responsible actions,” Rompetrol Rafinare CEO Yedil Utekov stated.

Employees as well as members of the community, local authorities and journalists took part in the action. The species of trees planted were recommended by environment authorities based on the type of soil and Dobrogea’s climate.

The tree planting action is just one of KMG International’s initiatives in Constanta, being part of a long-term collaboration between the Group and local communities. Among the projects carried out we also mention the setting up of the first respiratory rehabilitation centre within the Constanta Pneumophtisiology Clinical Hospital, the rehabilitation and equipping of the dental office that serves schools in the city of Navodari, the construction of a solar panel-powered lighting system at the ‘Grigore Moisil’ School in Navodari, as well as multiple actions meant to clean up polluted areas.

In its more than 35 years of existence, the Petromidia refinery has processed over 100 million tons of raw materials, the highest quantity of oil processed by a Romanian refinery. Rompetrol Rafinare, KMG International’s main asset, operates the Petromidia Navodari and Vega Ploiesti refineries, being also the sole producer of polymers in Romania.
