Fire in Bucharest subway, one station closed

The Piata Romana station of the Bucharest subway was closed around 4pm on Tuesday, after a train was blocked following a fire triggered by an electrical malfunction.

“The electrical switchboard of a train malfunctioned. The Piata Romana station is closed for 30 minutes. A team of Metrorex is on site to remedy the situation,” said Evelyne Croitoru, spokesperson of Metrorex, the company that operates the Bucharest underground.

She mentioned that the traffic was uninterrupted, but trains passed through the station without stopping.
