Nearly 82,200 motor vehicles registered in Q1, 2016

Nearly 82,200 motor vehicles were registered in Romania in the first three months of 2016, up 19.03 percent from the first three months of 2015, nearly 17,500 of which were new and the remaining used, according to data with the Vehicle Driving Licences and Registration Department (DRPCIV).
The statistics show 17,471 new motor vehicles were registered nationwide in January – March, 2016, up 21.05 percent from the first quarter of 2015. In March alone, 6,572 new units were registered, up 23.09 percent from the similar period of the year before.
Topping the list of new registrations are Dacia (5,221 units; +19.80 percent from January-March, 2015); Skoda (1,533; +1.86 percent); Volkswagen (1,463 ; +17.23 percent) and Ford (1,305; +6.88 percent).
Bringing up the rear were Alfa Romeo (five units), SsangYong and Lada (four units each), Maserati and Volvo (two units each), as well as Bentley and Cadillac (one unit each).
According to DRPCIV statistics on used motor vehicles, the number of such units in the first quarter of 2016 was standing at 64,690, up 18.50 percent from January-March, 2015’s 54,592 units.
Volkswagen continued to top the list of used cars in Romania (18,311 units; +15.48 percent from Q1, 2015); it was followed by (10,662 ; +15,50 percent) and Audi (4,962 units; +35.24 percent).
Official data indicate that Romania’s national motor vehicle fleet was made up of nearly 6.6 million units as of end-2015, up 5.27 percent from end-2014’s 6.27 million.
