The Specialist Committee of Romania’s National Citizenship Authority (ANC) on Friday announced all the legal conditions have been met for stripping convicted businessman Omar Hayssam of the Romanian citizenship.

An application to this end was filed by Romania’s Intelligence Service (SRI). A reasoned proposal from the committee will be submitted to the ANC chairman, who early next week will analyse whether or not the conditions are meet and issue an order.

“The application was filed under Article 25 (1)(d) in Law on Romanian Citizenship 21/ 1991, recast, as subsequently amended and supplemented, that says the Romanian citizenship may be withdrawn from anyone ‘known as having connections with terrorist groups, having provided support in any shape or form to them or committed offences endangering national security.’ After the application was considered, the committee established hat all the legal conditions have been met to withdraw the citizenship, and it will submit to the ANC chairman a reasoned proposal. Based on the proposal, the chair will decide early next week whether or not the conditions have been met, and issue an order to this end,” ANC reported in a press statement released on Friday.
