Wine sales soar during Easter period by rd 50 percent

The wines sales soar in the Holy Easter period by 50 percent against a normal month, with the red wines further in the Romanians’ preferences, due to the religious symbology, says the managing director of the National Vine and Wine Employers’ Association (PNVV), Ovidiu Gheorghe.
‘We must tell that in the past years the sale and consumption of the rose wine increased by 10 percent, the difference of the total market inclining the balance to the white wines, though, the semidry and semisweet, in particular, by rd 55 percent, and the red wines by 35 percent,’ the PNVV managing director told Agerpres.
The annual consumption of wine in Romania reaches 25 litres per person and it is only a half of the consumption in the average countries, which goes beyond 50 litres/capita.
The wine sector of Romania drew over 500 million euro in the past 10-12 years, as it is one of the most performing agricultural sectors.
Romania is currently in top 5 at European level as regards the vineyards cultivated area, with its 200,000 hectares, and it ranks 6th in the EU from the production point of view.
