AB InBev wants to sell SAB Miller brands in CEE

+ Ursus Breweries, whose portfolio includes brands such as Ursus, Peroni, Ciucas and Timisoreana, is among them

AB InBev has offered to sell the SAB Miller brands in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including Pilsner Urquell, before the European Commission’s decision on the approval of a transaction estimated at over USD 100 bln.

The assets are estimated at around USD 5 bln, according to Exane BNP Paribas analysts, who estimate that they are worth USD 2.3 bln in sales and USD 450 M in earnings before tax for SAB Miller, The Wall Street Journal writes.

The announced potential sale also includes Polish brands Tyskie and Lech, Hungary’s Dreher and Romania’s Ursus beer brands. Eastern Europe was never a major focus for AB InBev, and the potential sale is meant to ease the concerns that the European Commission might have in regard to the transaction that is waiting final approvals.

In Romania, SAB Miller is present through Ursus Breweries, whose portfolio includes brands such as Ursus, Peroni, Ciucas and Timisoara, and through three plants located in Brasov, Timisoara and Buzau. Ursus Breweries has been owned by SAB Miller for around two decades and registered a turnover of RON 1.4 bln (over EUR 310 M) last year.
