Number of debtors to banks, non-bank financial institutions up by over 10,600 in one month

The amount of population’s loan repayments in arrears to banks and non-bank financial institutions increased in March from February by 0.53 per cent to 11.43 billion lei, and the number of debtors rose by over 10,600 to 725,955, from 715,299 a month earlier, according to the data released on Friday by the National Bank of Romania.

Compared with the same month of last year, the amount of loan repayments in arrears is on a slight decrease, from 11.5 million lei to 11.43 billion lei, but the number of debtors increased by over 12,000.

Of total outstanding repayments, 7.7 billion lei equivalent (68 per cent) represents delays of 90 days.

Depending on the loan currency, the highest outstanding repayments continue to be recorded at the loans in euros, equivalent of 4.8 billion lei, but they are down from over 5 billion lei equivalent in March 2015. On the second place there are the repayments in arrears for the loans in lei – 4.46 billion lei, up from 4.3 billion lei a year ago.
