Just 3 days after winning the World Snooker Championship, Mark Selby – the champion that will come in Bucharest on May 22, strikes again! He just won 2 more prizes, this time within the event called “World Snooker Awards”, which took place on May 5 at London! Neil Robertson, the world champion in 2010, who will meet Selby in Bucharest, won a prize too, together with Marco Fu and the finalist of the World Snooker Championship, Ding Junhui.
The “World Snooker Awards” ceremony took place on Thursday evening at the Dorchester Hotel in London, with the participation of almost all of the players and great legends of this sport. All the players who won a tour of the current season were nominated, and among them were the three magnificent, who will come in Bucharest on may 22, for the demonstrative “Best of Snooker” Gala: Mark Selby, Judd Trump and Neil Robertson!
The event started with Liz Webster’s speech, and the first prize was awarded for the “Maximum Break of the Year”, to the three players who performed a break of 147 points: Neil Robertson, Ding Junhui and Marco Fu! Ding performed the break in Welsh Open, Marco in Gibraltar Open, and the star that will come to Bucharest on May 22 – Neil Robertson, did the 147 points break in the Triple Crouwn tour.
Next prize was awarded for “Snooker Writers Player of the Year”, which was granted to the new world champion Mark Selby! World number 1 has been awarded another prize – “Performance of the Year”, since he succeeded to win the Open in Gdynia (Poland), World Snooker Championship and reached the semifinals at the UK Championship and International Championship. He was congratulated for the quality snooker played this season.
Within the event in London an auction took place too, where the pants and vest in which Alan McManus was dressed when he played in the semifinals of World Snooker Championship were on sale, together with two tickets to the game of the British boxer Anthony Joshua – the new champion of the IBF heavyweight category, a picture of the 16 top players at the World Snooker Championship signed by them, the set of balls of Dafabet Masters, where Ronnie O’Sullivan defeated Barry Hawkins with 10-1, the set of balls with which Ding Junhui made the sixth 147 points break at BetVictor Welsh Open. There were also auctioned four VIP tickets to Justin Bieber’s concert, four tickets to Manchester United, four VIP tickets to the 2017 World Snooker Championship finals, and 2 tickets for a “behind the scenes” tour at the Leicester football club, who just became champion of England.
The evening closed with Mark Selby, the great champ of the evening, which came up to the scene with Leicester City’s flag in his hand and sang for the audience just as he sang few days ago at Sheffield, when he won the trophy of the World Snooker Championship, and when the team of his hometown became the champion of England!
