The Ombudsman has started on his own motion an investigation into the death of footballer Patrick Ekeng. “The investigation aims both at the circumstances of the tragic event and at the condition of the ambulance service on a national level, and the conclusions will be included in the next Special Report of the Ombudsman on the national health care system,” a release reads. Cameroonian Ekeng died at 26 on Friday evening, after collapsing on the pitch 70 minutes into Dinamo Bucharest’s match versus FC Viitorul. The postmortem revealed a pre-existent heart condition, and preliminary police investigations uncovered irregularities in the private ambulance service who failed to save the footballer’s life.
