Speaker Zgonea, after exiting DNA: I was heard as witness in ongoing case

Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea was heard on Friday at the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) as a witness in a case on which heb declined to give details to the media, only pointing out that it is an ongoing investigation.

“It concerns a case in which I was summoned as witness. I cannot tell you more. The institution will. This is the correct and legal thing to do. It is an ongoing investigation. (…) I do not wish to comment anything. I am a witness in a case which is being investigated. I don’t believe it is fair or legal [to comment]. Only the DNA can tell you [what it is about],” Zgonea said, upon exiting the DNA headquarters.

He said it is a step forward which all citizens should make for the truth to get out.

“Each Romanian needs to see that finding the truth is something we can all cooperate for if we want to have a different type of society. You know my public stands. I remain constant. Each time I am summoned as a witness in any case it is my duty as a citizen to show up,” said Zgonea.

According to judicial sources, Zgonea is said to have been summoned at the DNA as witness in a case in which Craiova Mayor Lia Olguta Vasilescu is investigated.
