Constanta County Hospital Director, caught taking bribe

Dr. Danut Capatana, director of the Constanta County Emergency Hospital, was detained by National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors on Wednesday after he was caught taking a bribe.

DNA issued a 24-hour arrest ordinance on his name.

Danut Capatana was arraigned by the DNA in 2014, in a different case in which he was accused, alongside other collaborators, of malfeasance in office assimilated to corruption and with very serious consequences. The case concerned the awarding of a concession agreement for the production, distribution and monitoring of medical oxygen within the Constanta County Hospital.

The 2014 case in which Capatana is arraigned has had 19 court hearings so far, according to the local press.

Danut Capatana was appointed manager of the Constanta County Hospital by Minister Ion Bazac (PSD) and maintained in office by former Constanta Council Chairman Nicusor Constantinescu (PSD), Hotnews informs. DNA prosecutors have arraigned Nicusor Constantinescu for corruption. Nicusor Constantinescu was also sentenced to three and a half years in prison, in a case concerning the under-financing of the Regional Military Centre, however the sentence is not final.
