25 of May is the International Day of Africa, a holiday and a celebration day of the African continent, of its role, diversity, cultural and spiritual wealth that brings it to the global context.
Ikhaya Drum Association and its partners have decided that this year, not just one day but four days to be devoted to Africa by organizing “Africa Days Festival”, at its first edition.
This festival aims to bring closer to the wide public from Bucharest (and Romania) the music and other traditional African art forms. Above this we want to contribute to changing mentalities and prejudgments that often exist in Romania to the African continent and people of African origin.
A team composed by diverse African Diaspora in Romania and other passionate people driven by the aim of this festival have prepared a multitude of various activities. Bucharest residents and all those in Bucharest on 25-28 May are expected in large number at the Culture House of Students and the Venus Park to take part in a series of actions designed to help them learn and discover things about Africa less known or accessible to them.
Access is free for all the activities.
For the music enthusiasts there is the consumer offer and the developing musical skills one. Every day will be concerts of traditional African music (with specific tools), and African dances, workshops of percussion, dancing, singing and African instruments.
A selection of documentaries from different parts of the continent will provide a varied material about social realities, musical and surrounded environment.
Each day participants will be able to analyze photo exhibitions, paintings and African materials. They are also invited to take part in a “treasure hunt” game to test their knowledge about Africa.
The detailed program can be found on Ikhaya Drum Association and the Facebook page of the festival.
This festival is made possible with the financial support from AFCN (Administration of National Cultural Fund) and SCANDO Trading. The Ikhaya Drum partners in implementing the festival are A.R.T. Fusion, Full Circle, StarFix, One World Romania, Hillents Embassy of South Africa.
