Gabriela Firea promises theatre: If I become mayor there will be an international festival

Gabriela Firea, PSD’s candidate for the Bucharest City Hall, wants to organise an international street theatre festival in Bucharest if she wins the local elections scheduled next Sunday, stating that “the show must go on” after several theatres have closed down.

Gabriela Firea wants to transform Bucharest into a cultural and artistic capital and the first edition of the International Street Theatre Festival will be organised in August 2017.

“Some theatres have been closed down in Bucharest. But the show must go on. (…) For a month’s time, there will be open-air shows – theatre and music – on the streets of Bucharest, offered by Romanian and foreign bands. Bucharest will become a tourism destination. And Bucharesters who cannot afford going on vacation will have the chance to spend their vacation in their city,” Firea added according to a press release.

The PSD candidate also claims that in this way Bucharest will boost its chances of becoming cultural capital of Europe in 2021.
