Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos on Monday announced that 129,526 euros have been raised at a public fundraiser for the purchase of Constantin Brancusi’s “Wisdom of the Earth” sculpture.
“So far, 129,526 euros have been raised, more than 60 percent of which in the past days, when we released the [tv] videos. The amount is certainly not high, but it encourages me when there is mobilisation and the subject is there, as there is moblilisation on the part of people. We will keep up the topic, this theme in the days, weeks and months ahead, both at home and in the Diaspora,” Ciolos told the official launch of the fundraiser for the purchase of ‘Wisdom of the Earth.’
Ciolos also urged to a “moment of honesty,” mentioning that the demarches for the purchase of the sculpture were started by the previous government.
He added that beyond the “math problems related to mobilising the amount,” he found it important to use the opportunity to consolidate collective civic spirit.
Ciolos said he is a convinced optimist and counts on the success of the campaign, but he is also ready to take personal responsibility for the campaign’s failure.
Attending the event at the Government House were Culture Minister Corina Suteu, Museum Curator and Researcher with the Pompidou Centre of Paris Doina Lemny, as well as actors Oana Pellea and Victor as campaign supporters.
