The construction of nuclear reactors no.3 and no.4 at the Cernavoda nuclear power plant will create around 16,000 jobs in the national industry, Romatom, the Romanian Atomic Forum, claims in a communique.
“CSAT’s [Supreme Defence Council] approval of the Report concerning reactors no.3 and no.4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant has major importance for the Romanian nuclear industry, for both private and state-owned companies. The implementation of the project will have a positive impact on the national and local economy, the creation of around 16,000 jobs being estimated for the completion of nuclear reactors no.3 and no.4 in Cernavoda. We are closely following the evolution of negotiations on the closing of the Investors’ Agreement and the Company Formation Act of the new Joint Company that will implement the Project and we are convinced that the Energy Strategy will undoubtedly confirm the role of nuclear energy in the Romanian energy mix,” Elcomex IEA CEO Marius Gheorghiu stated. Elcomex IEA is the company that currently holds the presidency of Romatom.
According to him, the project is beneficial for Romania, the commissioning of the two nuclear reactors set to push nuclear energy to a share of 30-32 percent in the national energy mix.
The Romanian nuclear industry’s involvement in the construction of nuclear reactors no.3 and no.4 in Cernavoda primarily means the capitalisation of past investments, of the facilities and production areas geared for the production of components and equipment for CANDU 6 nuclear power plants.
Romatom was established on 10 January 2011, when 14 private and state-owned companies and 2 NGOs decided to form the Romanian Atomic Forum. Romatom currently has more than 30 members.
