Registered contributions to the 5 June local elections campaign totalled 43,853,724 lei (almost 9.75 million euros) by 29 May, the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) informed in a release to Agerpres.
The AEP is quoting in this respect the financial trustees of the candidates.
According to Law 334/2006 on financing of the political parties and campaigns, contribution money can be spent only after they are declared to the AEP.
Fund raising was most successful for the National Liberal Party PNL – 16,625,302 lei; the Social Democrat Party PSD got 13,749,676 lei; the Romanian Alliance of Liberals and Democrats ALDE – 4,228,759 lei; the People’s Movement Party PMP – 2,358,653 lei; the Hungarian Democrat Union of Romania UDMR – 1,164,222 lei; the National Union for Romania’s Progress UNPR -1,660,512. Other parties collected less than one million lei each; 51 parties appointed trustees and registered the contributions.
The largest contributions for one independent candidate were 105,000 lei.
