The national forest fund area has registered in 2015 a growth by 10,534 hectares (0.16pc), as compared to 2014, to 6.555 million hectares, the forests thus occupying rd 6.398 million hectares, 97.6pc, respectively, of the national forest fund, according to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
This growth is mainly owed to some rearrangement of wooded pastures and to the introduction in the forest fund of the degraded lands and forest-less lands, legally set for afforestation.
According to the provisional INS data, the regenerated forest area has decreased by 2.6pct (755 ha), from 29,505 hectares in 2014, to 28,750 hectares in 2015.
