Soccer: Coach Iordanescu announces Romania’s squad for Euro 2016

Coach Anghel Iordanescu announced on Tuesday Romania’s squad of 23 for the next month’s European Championship in France.

In a message on Romanian Football Federation’s website, he thanked the 28 players who participated in a training tournament in Italy and, on the UEFA deadline for the official decision, sent home Alin Tosca, Adrian Ropotan, Alexandru Maxim, Ioan Hora and Andrei Ivan.

Romania will play a last friendly against Georgia in Bucharest this Friday, before opening Euro 2016 versus France on 10 June.

The squad includes nine players in Romania’s championship and 14 from foreign teams:

Goalkeepers: Ciprian Tatarusanu (Fiorentina, 35 caps/0 goals scoared), Costel Pantilimon (Watford, 22/0), Silviu Lung Jr. (Astra Giurgiu, 3/0);

Defenders: Cristian Sapunaru (Pandurii Tg. Jiu, 12/0), Alexandru Matel (Dinamo Zagreb, 16/0), Vlad Chiriches (SSC Napoli, 40/0), Valerica Gaman (Astra Giurgiu, 13/1), Dragos Grigore (Al Sailiya, Qatar, 19/0), Cosmin Moti (Ludogorets Razgrad, 7/0), Razvan Rat (Rayo Vallecano, 110/2), Steliano Filip (Dinamo Bucharest, 4/0);

Midfielders: Mihai Pintilii (Steaua Bucharest, 30/1), Ovidiu Hoban (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, 19/1), Andrei Prepelita (Ludogorets Razgrad, 9/0), Adrian Popa (Steaua Bucharest, 13/0), Gabriel Torje (Osmanlispor, 49/10), Alexandru Chipciu (Steaua Bucharest, 20/3), Nicolae Stanciu (Steaua Bucharest, 4/3), Lucian Sanmartean (Al Ittihad, Saudi Arabia, 19/0);

Forwards: Claudiu Keseru (Ludogorets Razgrad, 12/4), Bogdan Stancu (Genclerbirligi, 39/9), Florin Andone (Cordoba, 5/1), Denis Alibec (Astra Giurgiu, 3/1).
