President Klaus Iohannis signed on Saturday the decrees for the posthumous decoration of the four crew members died on Thursday in the crash of a Romanian medevac helicopter in the neighbouring Republic of Moldova, the Presidential Administration announced.
In recognition of their professionalism, humanitarianism and spirit of sacrifice, the president bestowed the National Order ‘For Merit’ in rank of knight to dr. Mihaela Dumea; the National Cross ‘Faithful Service’ 3rd class to chief nurse to Adrian-Gabriel Sandu; and the National Order ‘For Merit’ in rank of knight, with military insignia to pilot Group Captain Ilie Doru Gavril and copilot Wing Commander Constantin Voicu Socae.
The decorations were proposed by Health Minister Vlad Voiculescu and respectively the Internal Affairs Minister Petre Toba. The helicopter belonged to the Internal Affairs Ministry’s Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication SMURD.
