The seven victims of the explosion that occurred on Sunday in Bucharest’s Valea Cascadelor area have burns on 20 to 60pct of their bodies, Coordinator of Bucharest Unit of Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD), Bogdan Oprita has told Agerpres.
“The explosion resulted in seven victims with burns on 20 to 60pct of their bodies,” said the doctor.
According to him, one of the victims, aged 80, is in very serious condition, being intubated and mechanically ventilated.
Bogdan Oprita said that the victims are being rushed to several Bucharest hospitals – the Emergency University Hospital, the Floreasca Hospital and the Burn Victims Hospital.
Bucharest Police: 12 people allegedly suffer burns in Valea Cascadelor explosion
As many as 12 people have allegedly suffered burns on Sunday in an explosion followed by a fire at the flea market in Bucharest’s Valea Cascadelor area, inform the Bucharest Police in a release for Agerpres.
According to the cited source, four people received medical care at the scene and eight others have been rushed to the Bucharest Emergency Hospital, Bucharest Emergency University Hospital and the Clinical Emergency Hospital for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Burns.
The Traffic Police are clearing traffic and are escorting ambulances to hospitals.
On Sunday, a phone call to the emergency phone line 112 informed that on no. 101-103 Timisoara Boulevard, in the “Valea Cascadelor” flea market in Sector 6, a gas cylinder had exploded and several people had been injured, the press release mentions.
Policemen from precincts no. 21 and no. 25 have sent crews to the scene, and Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication (SMURD) ambulances have also been dispatched.
An investigation is currently conducted to establish the causes and conditions in which the blast occurred.
