Fire at Jilava footwear factory: Firefighter’s death confirmed, he was 34

The firefighter who died while taking action at the scene of a fire that broke out on Monday at the footwear factory in Jilava, after being caught under debris when a concrete wall of the building collapsed, was 34 years old, according to the Bucharest Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU).

His family was notified about the tragedy.

A fire broke out on Monday morning at a footwear factory in Jilava commune near Bucharest, spreading on about 2,000 square metres.

According to Daniel Vasile, spokesman of the Bucharest Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU), the firefighter got stuck between the hall and some containers.

Although a search and rescue team promptly stepped in the firefighter had died.
