President Iohannis received by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg

President Klaus Iohannis on Monday was received by Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg Henri, who bestowed upon him the Order of the Golden Lion – the highest distinction of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The head of the Romanian state and his wife, Carmen Iohannis, were welcomed at the Ducal Palace by Grand Duke Henri. Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was not present at the event attended by some 100 people, according to Agerpres.

After the official welcoming ceremony with military honors, Grand Duke Henri conferred to President Iohannis the Order of the Gold Lion of the House of Nassau , awarded on foreign sovereigns and heads of state for outstanding service to Luxembourg and the Grand Duke.

Iohannis had on Monday talks with Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies Speaker Mars Di Batolomeo, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Jean Asselborn. The Romanian president also met with the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Lydie Polfer, and will attend the gala dinner in his honour hosted by the Grand Duke and Duchess of Luxembourg.

On Tuesday, the president will visit the Belval campus of the University of Luxembourg, meet with Romanian students and participate in an economic event organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg. He will also attend the luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Bettel at the Museum of Modern Art. The two officials will hold a joint press conference.

Also on Tuesday, Iohannis will visit the National Museum of History and Art and will participate in the reception hosted by Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa at the Wercollier Cloister of the Neumunster, attended by Luxembourg officials, representatives of Luxembourg-based European institutions and members of the Romanian community.
