PSD, ALDE and UNPR leaders met on Monday afternoon at the PSD headquarters in order to talk about the future majorities within local administrations, deciding that the two junior parties will receive the offices of County Council Deputy Chairman and the two office of Bucharest Deputy Mayor.
On leaving the negotiations, ALDE leader Calin Popescu Tariceanu (photo) announced that his party will stand alongside PSD within all county councils.
“At this moment, we are able to jointly form majorities within 27 county councils. There are in fact 14 counties in which PSD holds the majority by itself, we decided to join an extended majority there. There are 11 counties in which PSD will form the majority with us, and several counties in which we have to see how we will be able to form the majorities because we still need council members in addition to those of the two parties (PSD and ALDE),” Tariceanu stated.
In his turn, PSD President Liviu Dragnea announced that Tariceanu’s party will receive the office of County Council Deputy Chairman in all counties in which it will stand alongside PSD, but also in those counties in which the Social Democrats have formed a majority without ALDE’s assistance.
“In all counties in which PSD holds the majority by itself, ALDE will receive an office of deputy chairman, even if we are forming the majority by ourselves. And of course in the counties in which we are jointly forming the majority. This means collaboration and the setting up of a majority. (…) After all, an agreement is based on the character of those who reach it,” Liviu Dragnea claimed.
UNPR President Valeriu Steriu stated in his turn too that the party he leads will receive one of the two offices of Bucharest Deputy Mayor. “We are open to finding all forms of optimising this result. The possibility of nominating the Deputy Mayor – one of the two – is already established in Bucharest. (…) We are very pleased with this collaboration. That is precisely why we are continuing in the spirit of the centre-left alliance established several years ago,” Steriu announced.
In 14 counties, PSD alone holds the majority needed to nominate the chairmen of the county councils. Those counties are: Arges, Bistrita, Buzau, Botosani, Dambovita, Dolj, Giurgiu, Hunedoara, Ialomita, Mehedinti, Olt, Teleorman, Vaslui and Vrancea.
In another 11 counties, in which PSD and UNPR ran on a joint party slate, alliances will be formed with ALDE in order to form majorities within the county councils. Those counties are: Bacau, Braila, Bucharest, Constanta, Galati, Gorj, Iasi, Prahova, Neamt, Tulcea and Valcea.
