The two senior officials discussed on the serious problems within the prison system in Romania and on the investment opportunities in the energetic effectiveness of the public buildings, including those under the Ministry of Justice.
European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu stated: “An important amount from the European Regional Development Fund, namely EUR 439 million, is allocated to the energetic effectiveness of the public building within the Regional Operational Programme. EUR 41 million are planned for Bucharest and Ilfov region, while EUR 398 million are available for the other regions. These are money which can be used in Romania for the thermal rehabilitation of the public buildings. It is the sovereign decision of Romania how it chooses to prioritize and use this money for the 2014-2020 period”.
The actions of supporting the energetic effectiveness at EU level have led to the decrease of the consumption with 1438 GWh per year, which is the equivalent of the entire electricity consumption of Malta in 2010. Greenhouse gas emissions were also reduced by the end of 2013 with more than 826 kilotons per year.
