Zgonea sent within Human Rights Commission

The Lower Chamber’s Standing Bureau decided on Tuesday to appoint Valeriu Zgonea, currently non-affiliated MP, member within the Human Rights Commission, arguing that the said Commission has the lowest number of members.

Valeriu Zgonea was recently excluded from PSD after he publicly asked for the resignation of PSD President Liviu Dragnea, after the latter was sentenced to two years in jail through a suspended but final sentence in the “Referendum” Case.

Likewise, PSD MPs and their allies within Parliament changed the Lower Chamber’s Regulations in order to be able to dismiss Zgonea from the office of Lower Chamber Speaker.

Valeriu Zgonea was dismissed from that office approximately 10 days ago, PSD nominating Florin Iordache as his replacement. Iordache will remain acting Lower Chamber Speaker until the parliamentary elections in the autumn.

Zgonea has not given up and has challenged his dismissal at the Constitutional Court of Romania. On Tuesday, the CCR postponed its ruling for June 28.
