President Iohannis awards Romania’s Star in the Sash rank on Germany’s President Gauck

Romania’s President Klaus Iohannis has awarded a Romania’s Star in the Sash rank order to his German counterpart Joachim Gauck.

Likewise, Iohannis bestowed a Romania’s Star in rank of Grand Cross on Gauk’s domestic partner Daniela Schadt.

Gauck was decorated ”in recognition of his contribution to the promotion of democracy and regional security, to the development of the friendly cooperation relationships between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany, to his understanding of and interest in the history and culture of Romania.”

Schadt was decorated ”as a token of high commendation for her contribution to the promotion of friendly cooperation relationships between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany.”

The two decorations were awarded upon a proposal from Romania’s foreign minister. The award decrees were signed by Iohannis on June 17 and published in the Official Journal on June 21.

Gauck started a three-day state visit to Romania on Monday, at the invitation of his Romanian counterpart Iohannis.
