On Friday, June 24, at 7.00 pm, at the Radio Hall, the famous American trumpeter having Cuban origins, Arturo Sandoval, will hold for the first time an extraordinary concert in Bucharest.
Deemed one of the most important Latin-jazz artists in the world, he started his career in Cuba, being influenced by great musicians like Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown and Dizzy Gillespie, the latter becoming his mentor and stage colleague in numerous concerts held in Europe and America. Along his impressive career, Arturo Sandoval has won ten Grammy awards, six Billboard awards and an Emmy award, while in 2013 President Barack Obama granted him the highest civil distinction in the US, namely The Liberty Medal. His life was transposed into the TV movie “For Love or Country – Arturo Sandoval”, the character Arturo Sandoval being played by the actor Andy Garcia.
The extraordinary concert which will be held in Bucharest is part of the tournament performed by the artist this summer in Europe, dedicated t his great master Dizzy Gillespie. Along with Arturo Sandoval and his quintet, there will also perform the Orchestra of “Ion Dacian” Operetta and Musical Theater, led by the conductor Lucian Vladescu; this concert will be the only concert within this tournament when Arturo Sandoval will perform together with a symphonic orchestra.
