Romania’s wheat and meslin exports in Q1 2016 increased 24.5 pc y-o-y, while corn exports dropped by almost 36 percent from the same reference period, shows data of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Relations with the Business Environment.
Imports decreased for both grain types by almost 48 pct for corn and 1.77 pc for what and meslin, respectively.
Thus, between January – March 2016 Romania exported 1.207 million tons of wheat and meslin worth 215.5 million euros, compared to 823,338.42 tons worth 173.022 million euros in the equivalent period of the year before. Wheat and meslin exports account for 1.55 pc of Q1 2016 total exports, as to 1.29 pc in the same period last year.
In Q1 2016 Romania also exported 669,566.33 tons of corn worth 206.173 million euros, compared to 1.441 million tons in the same period of 2015, priced at 320.875 million euros. Corn exports in the first quarter account for 1.49 pc of total exports, down from the 2.40 pc registered in the similar period of last year.
As far as grain imports are concerned, in Q1 2016 Romania took in from foreign markets 43,397.51 tons of corn worth 37.182 million euros, down by 47.74 pc from the 294,665.96 tons worth 71.143 million euros registered in the similar period of the year before.
According to the Ministry of Economy, Romania imported in the first quarter of this year 111,843.25 tons of wheat and meslin amounting to 21.262 million euros, compared to 111,906.52 tons in Q1 2015 (worth 21.645 million euros).
