Romania’s Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) is assuring the Romanian community of the UK of official support amidst the UK leaving the European Union, reporting that a new general consular office of Romania is about to become operational in Manchester.
In a press statement released on Tuesday, the MAE says the outcome of the referendum held on June 23 in the UK is not producing any legal effects on the consular protection and assistance activities provided by the Romanian Embassy in London in the interest and to the benefit of the local Romanian community.
The MAE is assuring the Romanian community of the entire official support.
It says that no increase has been recorded in applications for consular assistance in the aftermath of the June 23 referendum.
The increase in the volume of consular services provided so far this year by the Romanian diplomatic mission has been the result of an increase in the number of Romanian nationals to the UK, and it is part of a constant trend of the past years, the MAE explains.
Following signals that the outcome of the referendum is generating isolated tension and negative reactions against EU citizens in the UK of a nature that could be deemed discriminatory, the MAE is urging the Romanian nationals with knowledge of such incidents to inform both the relevant British authorities and the Romanian Embassy in London.
The MAE is also providing detailed information about consular procedures via the Contact and Support Centre for Romanian Nationals Abroad, which includes a website portal – www.informatiiconsulare.ro, a call centre and a mail centre (call-centre: +44 20 76027328; +44 20 76029833; +44 20 76036694; +44 20 76025193 / mail-centre : firstname.lastname@example.org).
Romania’s consular network has also released a wide-going project called Information System for Integrated Management of Citizens’ Services (SIMISC), which provides online consular services, consular information, scheduled applications etc. SIMISC is said to be operational at 95 diplomatic missions and consular offices and to be implemented at the Romanian Embassy in London in the second half of 2016.
As additional proof to the concern of the MAE with ensuring operative consular and high-quality consular assistance for Romanian nationals in the UK, a new consulate general of Romania is about to become operational in Manchester.
Moreover, the MAE is providing consular information to Romanian nationals via the Facebook page of its Consular Department.
