Amendments to local officials’ statute, tacitly adopted by Lower Chamber

The Lower Chamber tacitly adopted on Tuesday a draft law that stipulates the local councillor or county councillor’s right to take part in the local council or county council vote on his election to or dismissal from the office of deputy mayor, county council chairman and county council deputy chairman.

“The local councillor that runs for the office of deputy mayor as well as the deputy mayor proposed for replacement, can take part in the local council’s vote,” according to the draft law that amends the local officials’ statute, Mediafax shows.

Likewise, the county councillor who runs for the office of chairman or deputy chairman of the county council, as well as the county council chairman or deputy chairman proposed for replacement, can take part in the county council’s vote, according to the aforementioned source.

Since the constitutional deadline for debate and final vote was June 13, the legislative proposal was tacitly adopted in line with Article 75, Paragraph 2 of the Constitution and Article 113 of the Lower Chamber Regulations.
