Black Cube investigation close to completion

The investigation into the case of the Israeli spies arrested in Bucharest could end in a month’s time. DIICOT Chief Prosecutor Daniel Horodniceanu (photo) stated for Digi24 that all the imponderables of this investigation will be clarified several days from now, when Israeli and British authorities will have to inform who is the mysterious person who ordered the operation meant to compromise DNA Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi. The investigation could expand in Romania.

Journalist: When will this investigation into the Israeli spies’ case be concluded?

Daniel Horodniceanu: We hope it will be finalised next month.

J: Are you waiting for something at this moment? An answer from the rogatory commission?

D.H.: The answer from the rogatory commission.

J: Which concerns what?

D.H.: Which concerns the statements made by persons from Black Cube’s leadership and a contract allegedly signed by an interested person.

The contract that DIICOT Chief Prosecutor Daniel Horodniceanu is talking about is the key to the whole case. The answer from the Israeli authorities, as well as the answer from authorities in the United Kingdom, where Black Cube has offices, could clarify who ordered the espionage actions carried out in Romania.

Moreover, DIICOT prosecutors expect answers to several questions, including whether the Israelis had received an approval from the highest level to carry out their investigations in Romania, as Black Clube representatives claimed.

Journalist: Will the criminal prosecution extend in the country against the persons who hired them?

D.H.: We will see after we obtain the results from the rogatory commission. We hope they will arrive by next week.

Ron Weiner and David Geclowicz, the two Israelis detained in Bucharest, allegedly tried to collect information liable to compromise DNA Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi.

The case is followed at international level too. Journalist Keno Verseck, a collaborator of the prestigious Der Spiegel magazine, recently asked the DNA Chief Prosecutor about it.

Laura Codruta Kovesi: My and my family’s emails were not hacked. Based on our verifications, there was not even an attempt to do so. There were only repeated and insistent phone calls to family members and close friends. There is an ongoing investigation carried out by DIICOT. I hope we will find out the truth as quickly and as fully as possible. Persons we investigated or persons that back the persons we investigated are definitely involved.

DIICOT prosecutors detained Ron Weiner and David Geclowicz on the night of April 2 to April 3. They were later remanded under arrest by Bucharest Court magistrates. Their mission was to gather intelligence and hand it over to an unidentified contact at the Otopeni Airport. Black Cube, the company the two work for, is present in all the global hotspots and is involved in the most resounding global fraud scandals. The company was established in 2010 by Dan Zorella and Avi Yanus, former directors of the Mossad, Israel’s intelligence service. The company’s employees are also former intelligence officers.
